Guided Walks
Discover the ideals of Light, Air, and Space.
Take a walk with the Van Eesteren Museum and learn more about the urban environment of Nieuw-West and other garden cities, such as Buitenveldert and Watergraafsmeer. The museum organises various walks and bike rides through these neighborhoods and places. With a guide, you will learn what the ideas of Cornelis van Eesteren and his team look like in the city.
Guided Walk through Slotermeer
Take a walk through the Slotermeer neighborhood from Thursday to Sunday. During this walk, you will learn everything about this first Amsterdam Garden City. Explore this architectural highlight from the post-World War II reconstruction period, a municipal protected cityscape. Every fourth Sunday of the month, the walk is offered in English.
Walking/Bicycle Tour of the Month
Every month, the museum offers a special walk or bike ride. This highlights an area, garden city or current theme. This year, for example, the museum is offering a bike ride where female architects play the leading role or you will learn more about the works of art around the Sloterplas.
Guided tour of the Aldo van Eyck Orphanage
Every first Saturday of the month, there are guided tours in the Civic Orphanage. The Burgerweeshuis was designed by architect Aldo van Eyck (1918-1999) in 1955 and is seen as one of the most important contributions to Dutch architectural history of the twentieth century. The Burgerweeshuis also houses the BPD art collection. The tour is offered in Dutch and English.
