Amsterdam Architecture Night
On June 14, the very first Amsterdam Architecture Night will take place. It is an initiative of three Amsterdam architecture centers, ARCAM, the Van Eesteren Museum and Museum Het Schip, and is linked to the national Architecture Day. Since 1986, this day has been a special event for everyone interested in architecture. On this day, a large number of visitors visit special architecture, iconic buildings and participate in lectures and debates.
This year's overarching national theme is”Make space, leave space”, the adage of Amsterdam architect Herman Hertzberger (1932). The start of the architecture night is therefore a lecture by Hertzberger in the Amstelkwartier. The lecture starts at 7.30 pm and from 8.30 pm there will be three different extensive architectural cycling routes that focus on special architecture in Amsterdam East, South and Center. During the tour, smaller lectures are given in various buildings about specific architects, styles or practices. At the end of the evening, the three tours all end at Cinetol, the 1929 national monument by architect Van der Vlugt. Here, the evening ends with food, drinks and music.
