For Women Only
The collection of the Van Eesteren Museum consists largely of product design from the 1950s, in particular the Good Living tradition. In terms of materials and formal language, this new style was very progressive, but with a contemporary view, these products show themselves quite a role. Much of today's design is still. The book Invisible Women (2019), written by Caroline Criado Perez, shows in detail how the world was designed by men for men, causing “half the population to be systematically ignored”. The book revealed the “gender data gap” caused by consistent discrimination against women.
The exhibition For Women Only takes the collection of the Van Eesteren Museum and the Good Living tradition as a starting point and explores the conscious and unconscious design choices that were made and how this affected women's daily lives.
