Under the roofs of New West

Attention! This exhibition is on display in the Van Eesteren Museum House, not in the pavilion!
Everyone belongs to something. But what does “home” mean in a neighborhood full of different cultures? Photographer Karijn Kakebeeke, together with residents of Nieuw-West, went in search of their sense of home. Their photos and conversations show how diverse and how recognisable a sense of home can be. Especially at a time when there is little room for being 'different', this exhibition is about living together, about seeing and being seen, about being at home in today's city.
PHOTO CALL: Your feeling of Home – What creates your sense of belonging?
What makes a place feel like home? Is it the space itself, the people there, or the rituals we carry with us? In the exhibition Under the Roofs of Nieuw-West, photographer and anthropologist Karijn Kakebeeke explores how a sense of home is shaped—and reshaped—by time, culture, and change. But we are curious: what about you? What defines your sense of home and belonging?
Do you love photography and would you like to share your images with a wider audience? Then this is your chance! The Van Eesteren Museum and photographer Karijn Kakebeeke (Picture Bridge Foundation, PBF) invite you to submit photographs that respond to the question: what defines your sense of home and belonging?
The submitted photos will be featured on a special photography page on the museum’s website. The most compelling images and stories will receive extra attention on the social media channels of the museum and the PBF and will be discussed during the Van Eesteren Conversation (VEG) on the theme of Sense of Home on March 12.
Submit up to three photos with a short explanation to studio@picturebridgefoundation.nl, with the subject line Sense of Home and Belonging.
Please include your name, age, and place of residence.
Deadline: March 5
