Take a walk through the future of that time in Slotervaart.

Accompanied by a guide, you will walk through Slotervaart, beautifully located along the Sloterpark and the southeast side of the Sloterplas. The district, built with more spacious homes after Slotermeer and Geuzenveld between 1954 and the late 1960s, has a variety of tall, medium and low-rise buildings. Slotervaart is richly equipped with green houses, such as Jakoba Mulder's idea of the garden allotment. It is the first neighborhood in New West where a lot of private construction has been built and was therefore also known as West's elite neighborhood.

During the walk, you will pass the national monument Het Sloterhof and experience the effects of the elevated Lelylaan. You walk through the “golden edge” of the neighborhood with typical 1960s villas in the Colenbranderhof and the Bakhuizen van den Brinkhof, beautifully located in the green. And of course, you can see the various garden districts from Spoorwegbuurt to 'Blue Banddorp'.

Compared to the previously designed Slotermeer and the later Buitenveldert, Slotervaart occupies a middle position, both in terms of the average size of the houses and the number of homes built by private construction. The comparison of these three districts provides a good picture of the development of construction between 1950 and 1970.
