Tussen Tompouce en Baklava

“Tussen Tompouce en Baklava” marks the first solo exhibition of Studio Batman, led by interdisciplinary artist and designer Emin Batman. This timely exhibition commemorates the 60th anniversary of the guest worker agreement between Turkey and the Netherlands, reflecting on the long and layered histories of migration through architecture, design, sound, and spiritual symbolism.
Set within the Van Eesteren Museum, situated in a historically Amsterdam’s most diverse neighbourhood, the exhibition gains resonance through its location. It not only highlights a pivotal moment in Dutch-Turkish migration history, but also participates in the wider cultural reflection of Amsterdam’s 750th anniversary, reinforcing the city’s role as a living archive and a vibrant mosaic of cultural identities.
At its core, “Tussen Tompouce en Baklava” seeks to transform how we view migration: not as a national or ethnic phenomenon, but as a shared human journey, rich in complexity, memory, and creativity. The exhibition asks: What can we build together when we recognize shared experiences? How can artistic expression preserve, reclaim, and reinterpret cultural heritage?
On Thursday July 10th, at 19.00 PM we open the exhibition!
